VO5 Hot Oil Moisture Soak Elixir review

I am a hair product addict. For good reason - my hair is like me - damaged. I colour it (not a natural blonde....really?!), I straighten it (naturally curly - hate) and I love to backcomb it into a "stripper hump".

So naturally I am always on the look out for
the holy grail hair products. Redken blonde glam shampoo and butter treat has been my go to shampoo and conditioner for the last year or so but I am a complete sucker for cheaper brands and I am always hoping to find a miracle product for under a fiver and so I ended up picking up this bad boy in Superdrug for 4.28.

what V05 claim:
  • reconstructs damaged hair in one minute
  • for dry rebellious hair
  • doubles the strength of hair to reduce breakage
  • seeks out and binds to weak sites of every strand
  • removes 75% more chlorine than shampoo alone
Now - I dont swim so the chlorine claim is irrelevant to me - but I am lazy and the thought of a no preheat, in shower hot oil treatment with these kind of claims - well it seemed to be good to be true. They state the product contains 5 vital oils - but on looking in the ingredients list the oils are right at the end - meaning they are a lower percentage of the total oil. Disappointing.

What I say:

  • oils are messy products to use - ok its better that this doesnt need preheating but the product itself would be better in a pump - I lost a fair amount trying to close the flip lid with oil in one hand!
  • you put it on BEFORE shampoo - which is weird. It made my hair feel really "coated" and the first shampoo hardly lathered at all which I didn't personally like. It may be that my hair is SO bound with goodies and super protected BUT to me it just felt more like when I put a really silicony primer on my face. A false sense of goodness!
  • my hair does feel soft post wash - but no softer than usual. The product also carries a stiff warning about not getting it in your eyes as it can cause "severe irritation" which is scary for an in shower product!
  • It made my scalp feel a bit itchy afterwards. I rinsed very well as directed (as I have very thick hair) but it made my scalp feel tender and itchy (a bit like straight after I have my colour done) which I dont usually have when I use my redken shampoo on its own.
So all in all not an overwhelming success! I will persevere and use it again next week and post an update with my final opinions then. I will also have dried it a few more times so will be able to opine on whether my hair is easier to dry and whether it feels stronger as V05 claim it should.

until next time.......xo

Faking it....acrylic nails and me

Three weeks ago I looked down at my hands and decided I could no longer bear to see them without full on white tipped nails. Porn nails as I like to call them. Or dirty acrylics.

I had gone a year without giving into this particular vice of mine. The last time I had acrylics...post Vegas 10 - my nails were so damaged it took almost 5 months for them to recover via Nailtiques 2. Once they recovered I bought dozens of gorgeous OPI nail polishes to encourage me not to slip back to my dirty ways.

But I was in a dark place last month and I needed to fake it til I could make it so I popped off to my local nail salon and committed to having my white tips glued back on. I can't lie they did look amazing. All pristine and Real Housewives of the OC. However after a week they just looked a bit....well...fake. And after 2 weeks they just looked a bit...scraggy. So this morning I could bear it no longer - the acrylics came off and I went back to my old favourite OPI's Lincoln Park after Dark on my natural nails.

Until I next give in to temptation of course!

until next time....xo

Louis Vuitton purse love

So - my heart was broken, I couldn't sleep, I couldn't eat. I hadn't really shopped for weeks.

And then last weekend I found myself walking down Sloane Street. As I walked I felt a gravitational pull....towards the hallowed halls of Louis Vuitton.

Once I was in there it was inevitable. In the cabinet I spied the perfect purse. LV monogram on the outside yet inside.... cream and pink leopard - well a modernistic graffiti style leopard as is becoming of a piece of Vuitton.

And here she is:

gorgeous pretty thing. As yet she is empty as the purse cost more than my speedy bag! ouch! but what price beauty. And it makes me smile everytime I look at it and thats pretty rare these days

thank god for shopping!

until next time............
